Commodization of Simulacra

Japanese celebrities have in the figure of the jimusho the organization working to ‘restructure’ and formalize their exchange relations with fans, controlling what is ought to be consumed and commercially explored by third parties that have no relation with the public figure of the celebrity. As a matter of fact, while constructions of the entertainment [...]

Communion and Ritual

With all the interaction and democracy (in some cases the hyper about democratization of information without further analysis on socio-economical differences in the world panorama has driven the Internet aficionados to create what I came to call ‘democrazy’, a term that extorts all debates from democracy in the Web and simply flats all the socio-economical [...]

Roles, Interaction and Hyperreality

To understand the interactions among individuals within a communication process, it is first essential to understand the individual behavior itself and the functions of each part involved in the process. From this standpoint, it is possible to understand that the image shown on camera is indeed an important part of ‘life’ in video chat rooms, [...]

Flirting with the Audience

A medium can’t survive without audience, as a matter of fact; all media exist in function to an audience. It is this audience that justifies the existence of the medium and foments its production process and reproduction of its information through other media. The modern concept of celebrity is totally ‘media dependent’. As a [...]

Ghosts, goblins, haunted houses and “Silent Hill”

Ghosts, goblins, haunted houses and “Silent Hill 2”

A collective unconscious approach of horror and terror inside games.

by Aristides Emmanuel Pereira
Scary bits of nothing
Understanding from where the taste for frightening stories comes from is as hard as trying to define why horror is so popular nowadays.
It is a fact that stories where ghosts and haunted places [...]
