The worst part about being tricked to buy something expensive with the illusion of a better experience is buying an expensive cellphone and end up overcharged for a service that does not work half of the time.
Maybe some of the customers out there using the Blackberry Storm are far from this reality. But having this particular model of mobile phone running under the Docomo Pacific Network in Guam can be both disappointing and expensive experiences.
The Docomo Pacific EDGE network (Blackberry’s 3G Network) seems to not have enough coverage and in some cases the phone ends up without email, and web capabilities such as browsing and updates through Facebook or Twitter for an entire day. It might be an isolated experience and wouldn’t sound that bad if the service didn’t cost $39.99 per month.
So far, it’s all about the network, you might think.
But the phone itself is not the smartest in the market. With constant reboots and freezing after any calls longer than five minutes, the Blackberry Storm scores way below the average in reliability.
Overall, the combination of phone and network makes one contemplate a drastic change in lifestyle that includes saying goodbye to cellphones.
If you need to talk to me, find me on Skype – at least there the calls won’t drop.
Sorry to hear about your disappointment.I got the Storm 1 and 2. Anyway I’m not sure which one you have but if you are having problems with the operating system, you should look at upgrading your operating system. Look on crackberry.com for the latest. I had similar problems when I first started but after the updates the orblems went away.
Hi Thomas, thank you for your input. I’m using the Storm 1. Actually I forgot to mention but I have performed all updates. I guess I will just use it until my 2-year plan ends (August) and then probably just stick with Skype and my home phone.
great post as usual!
Thanks for reading, Mark.
I am just getting over a boatload of disappointment over my Blackberry experience. My carrier was giving away the 8320 curve and I got one. Two year service agreement. Alas, it is edge and so it is sloooooow. I never use it for internet, why bother? I could drive to a real computer and log in before this tractor would react. Plunk plunk plunk “Finding website”, plunk plunk plunk “loading stylesheet”. Phfffft. No images. The UI stinks. Who wants even to play solitaire when the background flaps around and the cards are no bigger than the head of a pin? I am stuck with this stinky device until April 2011. I have a big surprise for my carrier for sticking me with this hog wallow, I am going over to AT&T and getting myself an iPhone in June 2011. B’bye stinkers!
